Artist Statement

Richard Barrett

Perhaps you’ve said to yourself, when you’ve seen something that is particularly colorful, or touching, or startling, or humorous: “I’d like to capture this moment!”

I’ve been doing this since I used my first Kodak Baby Brownie at the age of ten, and then on through my years as a naval officer, aluminum worker, banker, and now as a fund raising consultant for charities. Most of my prints ended up shut away in albums, shoeboxes or trashcans.

Inspired by my father’s admiration for a well-composed photograph, encouraged by the enthusiasm of my sculptor spouse and partner, and recently empowered by digital photography, I have discovered new ways of sharing my joy of looking at things in a special way.
